The Music Ministry at MBC is a very important part of our services. So many think of music as worshipping the Lord. This is only a small part of God's intent for music. Music is used in so many ways in the Bible as our examples of the reason God has inspired so many through the years to write songs of encouragement and hope. Music is not for entertainment or to get our "toes a tappin".
When an evil spirit troubled Saul he called for David to come play music upon his harp. 1 Samuel 16:23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. The leader of the nation of Israel needed Godly music played before him to set his spirit right.
Again, we find music being used in battles during the days of Jehoshaphat. The Ammonites came against Jehoshaphat to battle and he feared and set himself to seek the Lord. All of Judah gathered themselves together to ask help of the Lord. The Spirit of God came upon Jahaziel and he said, "Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's." When they went to face the enemy, Jehoshaphat sent the CHOIR ahead of the army to say, "Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever." Watch what happened. 2 Chronicles 20:22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. When the CHOIR began to sing, the battle that God's people were facing, was won! God's people are facing many battles today and they need Godly music to help them win the battles.
We still sing the "old songs" at MBC.
Amazing Grace is still amazing!
Our God is still a Mighty Fortress!
Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross is still our desire!
And there is still Victory In Jesus!
Many times, while our choir is singing people will come to the altar, and win a battle that they are facing. Thank God for the Ministry of Music.
